How to Program COX Universal Remotes

The direct code entry and manual code search programming methods for different set of remotes are explained below.

Direct Code Entry (XR5/XR11/XR15)

  1. Press and hold the Setup button (or Contour + Mute for XR15) until the LED turns from red to green.
  2. Enter the first 5-digit code for your TV or audio device. The LED should flash green twice.
  3. Press the TV Power or All Power button. If your device turns off, you’ve successfully programmed the remote! Turn the device back on and check the volume controls by pressing VOL +/- and Mute. If the device doesn’t turn off or the volume doesn’t respond, try the next code listed for your device.

Notes:

  • For XR15 remotes, use Contour and Mute together for 5 seconds in Step 1.
  • The procedure is the same for both TVs and audio devices. Program the TV first if you want to control both devices simultaneously.

Manual Code Search (XR5/XR11/XR15)

    1. Turn on your device.
    2. Enter the Setup mode:
      • For XR5 & XR11: Press and hold the Setup button until the LED changes from red to green.
      • For XR15: Press and hold the A and D buttons together for 5 seconds until the LED changes from red to green.
    3. Enter 991 to search for a TV code and 992 for an audio device code. The LED should flash green twice.
    4. Press the Channel Up button repeatedly until your device turns off.
    5. Complete the programming:
      • For XR5 & XR11: After the device turns off, press Setup. The LED should flash green twice. Then press the TV Power or All Power button. If the device turns on, you’ve successfully programmed your remote.
      • For XR15: After the device turns off, press OK. The LED should flash green twice. Then press the Power button. If the device turns on, you are done.

Direct Code Entry (URC8820/7820)

  1. Select the Device: Press and release the key for the device you want to program.
  2. Enter Programming Mode:
    • For URC 8820: Press and hold MUTE and SELECT simultaneously until the device key blinks twice, then release both keys.
    • For URC 7820: Press and hold the SETUP key until the selected mode key blinks twice, then release SETUP.
  3. Enter the first 4-digit code listed for your device brand. For URC 7820, if the code is recognized, the selected mode key will blink twice.
  4. Test the Code: Aim the remote control at the device and press the POWER button once.
    • If the device turns off, the code has been successfully programmed.
    • If it does not turn off, repeat the procedure with the next code listed for your brand until you find one that works.

Manual Code Search (URC8820/7820)

  1. Turn on the device you wish to control.
  2. Enter Programming Mode:
    • For URC 8820: Press and hold the MUTE and SELECT simultaneously until the device key blinks twice, then release both keys.
    • For URC 7820: Press and hold the SETUP key until the selected mode key blinks twice, then release SETUP.
  3. Activate Code Search Mode:
    • For URC 8820: Press and release the key for the device to be programmed; the device key LED will stay on.
    • For URC 7820: Enter 991, the device key will blink twice.
  4. Begin Code Search:
    • For URC 8820: While aiming the remote at your device, press and hold the SELECT key until your device turns off.
    • For URC 7820: Aim the remote control at your device and press POWER once, then press CH+ or CH- repeatedly until the device turns off.
  5. Save the Code:
    • For URC 8820: When your device turns off, release the SELECT button to save the code automatically.
    • For URC 7820: Press SETUP once to lock in the code. The device key will blink twice.

Note: For URC 7820: If you accidentally go past the correct code while pressing CH+, press CH- one or more times until the device turns back on.


Direct Code Entry (URC2220/3220)

  1. Press and hold SETUP until the power button blinks twice.
  2. Enter the first 4-digit code for your TV brand.
  3. Press POWER. If the TV turns off, you’re done! If not, repeat with the next code.

Manual Code Search (URC2220/3220)

  1. Press and hold SETUP until the power button blinks twice.
  2. Press POWER.
  3. Hold SELECT until the TV turns off.
